Set up and manage your restaurant menu in Restrox. You can create categories, add menu items, configure prices, variants, add-ons, and control item availability from one place.

Getting Started

To start setting up your menu:

  1. Open the Restrox Dashboard.
  2. Select your restaurant.
  3. Go to Menu from the sidebar.
  4. Select Menu Setup.

Before adding menu items, it is recommended to create your categories first.

Step 1: Create Menu Categories

Categories help you organize your menu and make items easier to find while taking orders.

Example Categories

  • Starters
  • Momo
  • Pizza
  • Burgers
  • Main Course
  • Drinks
  • Desserts

Create a Category

  1. Go to Menu → Categories.
  2. Click Add Category.
  3. Enter the category name.
  4. Add a description if required.
  5. Upload a category image if available.
  6. Select the category status.
  7. Click Save.

Category Status

Active: The category is available for ordering.

Inactive: The category is temporarily hidden from the menu.

Step 2: Arrange Categories

You can arrange categories according to how you want them to appear in the menu.

For example:

  1. Popular
  2. Starters
  3. Momo
  4. Pizza
  5. Burgers
  6. Main Course
  7. Drinks
  8. Desserts

Keep frequently ordered categories near the top so staff can find them quickly.

Step 3: Create Add-on Groups

Add-on groups allow customers to customize their menu items.

For example, a burger can have additional options such as:

  • Extra Cheese
  • Extra Patty
  • Fried Egg
  • Extra Sauce

Create an Add-on Group

  1. Go to Menu → Add-ons.
  2. Click Add Add-on Group.
  3. Enter the group name.
  4. Select whether customers can choose one or multiple options.
  5. Select whether the group is required or optional.
  6. Click Save.

Example

Group Name: Burger Extras

Selection: Multiple

Required: No

Step 4: Add Add-ons

After creating an add-on group, add individual add-on options.

Example

Burger Extras

  • Extra Cheese — Rs. 50
  • Extra Patty — Rs. 150
  • Fried Egg — Rs. 40
  • Extra Sauce — Rs. 20

Add an Add-on

  1. Open the add-on group.
  2. Click Add Add-on.
  3. Enter the add-on name.
  4. Enter the additional price.
  5. Set its availability.
  6. Click Save.

Step 5: Create Menu Items

Now you can start adding your food and beverage items.

  1. Go to Menu → Items.
  2. Click Add Item.
  3. Enter the item name.
  4. Select the category.
  5. Add the item description.
  6. Upload an image.
  7. Enter the price.
  8. Configure variants and add-ons if required.
  9. Set availability.
  10. Click Save.

Step 6: Add Item Name

Enter a clear and recognizable name for the menu item.

Example

Chicken Steam Momo

Use simple and consistent names throughout your menu.

Step 7: Select Category

Select the category where the item should appear.

Example

Item: Chicken Steam Momo

Category: Momo

The item will now appear under the Momo category.

Step 8: Add Item Description

Add a short description that explains what the item contains.

Example

Juicy chicken-filled dumplings served with homemade tomato chutney.

A good description should be short, clear, and useful.

Step 9: Add Item Image

Upload a clear image of the menu item.

For better results:

  • Use a high-quality image.
  • Keep the food centered.
  • Use good lighting.
  • Avoid unnecessary text.
  • Keep image sizes consistent across your menu.

Step 10: Set the Item Price

Enter the item's standard selling price.

Example

Chicken Steam Momo

Price: Rs. 180

Always verify the price before publishing the item.

Step 11: Add Variants

Variants are useful when one menu item has different sizes or options.

Example

Chicken Pizza

  • Small — Rs. 350
  • Medium — Rs. 550
  • Large — Rs. 750

Instead of creating three separate products, create one menu item with size variants.

Create a Variant

  1. Open the item's variant settings.
  2. Create a variant group.
  3. Enter the variant name.
  4. Add the available options.
  5. Set the price for each option.
  6. Configure whether selection is required.
  7. Save the variant.

Example

Variant Group: Pizza Size

  • Small — Rs. 350
  • Medium — Rs. 550
  • Large — Rs. 750

Step 12: Assign Add-ons to an Item

After creating add-on groups, assign them to the appropriate menu items.

Example

Chicken Burger

Available add-ons:

  • Extra Cheese — Rs. 50
  • Fried Egg — Rs. 40
  • Extra Patty — Rs. 150

When staff takes an order, they can select the required add-ons and Restrox can calculate the additional amount.

Step 13: Configure Availability

You can control when a menu item is available.

For example:

Breakfast Items: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Lunch Items: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Dinner Items: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

If an item becomes temporarily unavailable, disable it instead of deleting it.

Example

Chicken Momo

Status: Out of Stock

Once the item becomes available again, change the status back to Active.

Step 14: Configure Taxes

If your restaurant uses taxes, assign the appropriate tax configuration to your menu items or categories.

Example

Item Price: Rs. 500

Tax: 13%

Restrox can then calculate the applicable tax when creating the bill.

Make sure your tax configuration follows the requirements applicable to your restaurant.

Step 15: Configure Kitchen

If your restaurant has multiple kitchen or preparation stations, assign menu items to the appropriate location.

Example

  • Menu Item · Preparation Area
  • Menu Item: Pizza · Preparation Area: Pizza Station
  • Menu Item: Momo · Preparation Area: Momo Station
  • Menu Item: Coffee · Preparation Area: Bar
  • Menu Item: Burger · Preparation Area: Main Kitchen

This helps ensure orders are sent to the correct preparation area.

Step 16: Edit a Menu Item

To update an existing menu item:

  1. Go to Menu → Items.
  2. Search for the item.
  3. Open the item.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Update the required information.
  6. Click Save.

You can update the item's:

  • Name
  • Description
  • Category
  • Image
  • Price
  • Variants
  • Add-ons
  • Tax
  • Availability
  • Status

Step 17: Disable a Menu Item

If an item is temporarily unavailable, you can disable it.

For example:

Mushroom Pizza

Status: Inactive

The item remains in your menu configuration but is no longer available for ordering.

Disabling an item is generally preferable to deleting it when you want to preserve historical order and reporting information.

Step 18: Delete a Menu Item

If an item is permanently removed from your restaurant menu, you can delete it if your Restrox configuration allows deletion.

Before deleting an item, check whether it is referenced by previous orders or reports.

For historical data, disabling an item is usually safer than permanently deleting it.
